What is Chainlink?

Chainlink (LINK) is a decentralized network launched in 2017 that allows smart contracts on blockchains to securely interact with real-world data, events, and payments. By providing reliable data connections, Chainlink expands what smart contracts can do, enabling them to use information from outside the blockchain. The LINK token is the native cryptocurrency of the Chainlink network, used to pay for data services and encourage data providers to deliver accurate information. LINK itself is a public network — no single company runs it, which is part of what makes it trustworthy. The risk people usually mean is price: LINK can move sharply in a single day. Only put in what you'd be comfortable losing while you learn.
